Core Components of a Sales Cadence

An effective sales cadence is built from three main components:

  • Touches: The specific actions taken to contact a prospect. A typical business-to-business cadence includes 8 to 12 touches, combining automated emails with manual phone calls and social network engagement.
  • Duration and Pacing: The total length of the sequence and the time elapsed between each touch. A common cadence might run for two to three weeks, with touches spaced every 1 to 3 business days to maintain momentum.
  • Channel Mix: The combination of communication methods used. Modern cadences blend digital channels (email, social media) with direct ones (phone calls, video messages) to maximize the chance of connecting with a prospect where they are most active.
